Updates on WFC preparations presented to Committee on Forestry’s 25th Session
The XV World Forestry Congress was presented at the 25th Session of the Committee on Forestry’s (COFO 25), which was held virtually from 5-9 October 2020.
On 9 October, Mr. Kiyeon Ko, XV World Forestry Congress Secretary-General, gave an overview of WFC preparations. Mr Ko provided information on areas such as the Congress venue, registration, field trips, and the thorough preparations of the host country regarding COVID-19 related safety precautions. Mr Ko welcomed the participation of all countries and stakeholders to the Congress, and noted that there will be a specific registration category that provides a special discount rate for participants from low- and lower-middle income countries.
The World Forestry Congress was also present in a booth in the COFO 25 Virtual Atrium.
A biennial event, COFO brings together heads of forest services and other government officials to identify emerging forest issues, and to seek solutions and advise FAO and others on appropriate action. Other international organizations and, increasingly, non-governmental organizations participate in COFO as well.
